How To Play VOB files on VLC player

The file format vob is a DVD format that can contain audio, video, subtitles and menus. To play VOB files, you must understand how they work. What is in the file depends on the DVD that it came from. DVDs with lots of special features and extra languages and subtitles will have bigger vob files on them then basic DVD movies that only have the feature film on them. Most people would not know that they existed because DVD players that hook up to televisions don’t display any information about what is on the DVD. All you see is the menu that was created so that you can watch the movie and any extra bits and pieces that where added. But now that a DVD compatible drive is common place in most computers, average people are becoming aware of the actual files on the DVDs they purchase. Some people also make copies of these vob files and then make copies of the DVDs they came from. But nowadays most companies encrypt their DVDs so that they cannot be copied easily.
But sometimes you just want to watch DVDs on your computer because it’s more convenient or your DVD player is not working. Whatever the reason is, there are program like the VLC player that will allow you to play vob files from your computer. Now you may try to use whatever media player that you have installed on your computer and come across problems. That is because most vob files on DVDs are now encrypted and can be read only by DVD players that now where the decryption codes are, which is in a very specific spot right on the DVD itself. Not all media players that you can use on your computer are designed to look for these decryption codes, so you have to go for the programs that are written specifically for DVD playback. The VLC player is capable of playing vob files, because it is able to tell your DVD drive where to look for the decryption codes. It operates just like any other stand alone DVD player would and in some cases may give you more control over the rewinding, fast forwarding and skipping chapters then a DVD player can. But that depends on what DVD player you have so you have to decide for yourself if playing vob files on the VLC player is worth it. No matter what your opinion, playing vob files on the VLC player will suffice if you have nothing else.

How To Play MXF Files on VLC

Material eXchange Format ( MXF ) is a container or a wrapper format for digital audio and video media defined by a set of standards defined by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers ( SMPTE ). To play MXF files, you should know that it is an open file format aimed at the interchange of audio and video material with associated data. It has full timecode support and metadata support and is intended as a platform agnostic sable standard for professional audio and video applications to evolve. Basically it has been designed for, one: to address problems with other formats, two: improving file based interoperability between servers, workstations and other content-creation devices. With these improvements there would be improved workflows and more efficient working practices than are possible with mixed and proprietary file formats available these days. Material eXchange Format carries a subset of the Advanced Authoring Format ( AAF ) data model, under the Zero Divergence Directive ( ZDD ) policy. This enables MXF/AAF workflows between NLE ( Non Linear Editing ) systems using AAF and cameras, servers, and other devices using MXF. MXF is an open standard, that is it is a file transfer format which is available to all interested parties. It does have a specific compression scheme, and it simplifies the integration of systems using MPEG and DV as well as yet unspecified, compression strategies, it means that the transportation of these different files will not dictate the use of specific manufacturers’ equipment and also will be independent of content. Any required processing can simply be achieved by automatically invoking the appropriate hardware or software codec. Workflows combining the eVTR, Avid NLE systems, and broadcast servers using MXF in coordination with AAF can be done through this format.

VLC player is an open source media player developed by the Video Lan project. It is a very useful tool for viewing many different media formats, on multiple computer platforms. Playing MXF files on VLC can be achieved by some methods. To be able to play them you can use Avid or Canopus editing software, or use RayLight and use any of these to convert the MXF files into .AVI files that can be easily played in VLC by downloading a codec like divX codec. Another method for playing MXF files on VLC is by using the Mainconcept Reference codec, by installing this codec you can directly run your MXF files on the VLC media player. Through this you should be playing MXF files on VLC media player with ease.

How To Play AIFF Files on VLC

Have you ever wanted to play sound files created in a native Macintosh format on a PC? You can Play AIFF files on VLC, which allows you to do just that. AIFF is an acronym for Audio Interchange File Format, a sound file type that was used beginning in the late 1980’s, and is still used today on Macintosh computers. The original AIFF files were sound files that were not compressed however there are variants that exist today that are compressed. When AIFF files were first developed, they had to be played on a Macintosh computer, Windows based computers did not understand the file type. Therefore, sounds recorded on a Macintosh computer could not be played under another operating system unless the file was converted into some other format (such as a Windows based WAV file). This made exchanges of sound files between these two types of operating systems very tedious, because the earliest versions of media players could not simply “convert the file on the fly” and play it. Until a converter program was developed, it might be necessary to record the same sound twice, once for each format.

Today however, playing AIFF files on VLC is a cinch. That’s because VLC is a cross-platform media player that requires no additional CODEC or external program to work. And since it’s cross-platform, it works on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and Syllable. If you know the general process to open any file, than you can play an AIFF on VLC. AIFF files can be played on VLC using the following process.

First you need to download the VLC player installer file and follow the directions to install the player. Once the files are installed on your system, start the VLC media player according to your operating system. When the VLC player first opens and it has not been associated with a specific file, you will see the menu bar of the VLC player displayed on your screen in a separate window. Choose “Media” to activate a drop-down menu. On this menu choose “Open File” and got to the folder that contains your AIFF file. Use the “Open File” menu to select the AIFF file (or key in the file name). Finally, choose the “Open” button and the VLC player will play the AIFF file.

How To Play WAV files on VLC

To Play WAV files on VLC is easy! WAV files, also known as Audio for Windows files or Waveform audio format files are digital sound files that were once native to Microsoft Windows programs. A WAV file is the conversion of an analog sound to a digital bit stream which can be played, stored, transmitted or copied on a computer. In the early days of its creation, WAV files were used primarily on Microsoft/IBM systems only, but today WAV files can be used not only by Microsoft, but by Linux and Macintosh operating systems as well.

WAV files are still widely used today. The files that make sounds associated with the Microsoft operating systems are wav files. WAV files may be compressed, but usually are not, resulting in relatively high files sizes. The trade-off for this however is extremely high quality sound, which may be sacrificed in other compressed sound file types. WAV files are often the format used for archiving when storage size is not an issue. WAV files are often the “standard” file that sound programs use when converted or transferring other types of compressed files. For example, computer CD players when playing a music CD through the computer often convert the CDA format to WAV format so they can be played through the sound card. However, WAV files are usually not the preference for transferring or streaming because of their lack of compression.

However, playing WAV files on VLC is rather effortless. That’s because VLC comes equipped with the digital programming that instructs it how to handle data sent via the WAV format. Here’s a step-by-step procedure for playing WAV files on the VLC.

1) After you have downloaded and installed the VLC player, open the VLC media player.
2) The VLC media player will display on your screen. On the menu bar, click on “Media.”
3) A drop-down window appears. Click on “Open File” and navigate to the location of the WAV file.
4) Click on the file in the “Select one or more files to open” window or once you are in the folder that the file is located in, type the name of the file in the “File name” window.
5) Click on the “Open” button. The file will load and the VLC media player will begin playing it automatically.

How to Play OGM Files on VLC

Files with the extension OGM are video files using the OGG file format for compression. To play OGM files, you should understand that the OGG file format was developed by the Xiph.Org foundation as a free, open source format for video, audio, and metadata. Unlike other video and audio formats, which are restricted by software patents and often only work with one specific program. It also offers a better compression method for high quality files. Multiple codex, including Theora for video and Speex for human speech, are combined to make a more powerful yet flexible file format. The OGG file format is not the most common audio file format yet, but it is gaining popularity, with both audiophiles looking for a higher quality alternative to MP3s and with software developers looking for a free file format to use.
The OGM format was developed in 2002. The OGG file format had no formal video support before then, but has issues, such as being limited to mostly Windows only tools. It’s no longer supported or developed, but it’s still widely used for video storage, despite the newer .ogv format being more flexible and able to work with Linux and Mac systems. Because this file format has been discontinued, not all open source video players can play these files. VLC, an open source video player that can play most file formats and supports most codecs, is one of the few to offer full .ogm support. VLC is also a cross-platform program, working on Windows, Linux, and Mac based systems. Playing OGM files on VLC is usually very simple.
VLC comes equipped with the proper codecs to read OGM files. Playing OGM files on VLC is as simple as double clicking on the OGM file. It should start playing automatically in the VLC player. If it doesn’t, it’s often because the system hasn’t been restarted between installing VLC and attempting to play the file. Some systems need to be restarted when file formats are associated with new programs. This depends on the operating system as well. Some operating systems may require a right click and a choice such as “Play this File in VLC Player” being chosen.
Playing OGM files on VLC tends to be the best way to use the OGM file format. Other players offer some OGM support, and codex can be downloaded for almost all players, but VLC is one of the few to maatch the OGM file format completely.

How To Play OGG Files on VLC

As you play OGG files, you will notice that the format is possibly one of the greatest formats available today. While MP3’s are definitely the most familiar of audio formats, that does not necessarily make MP3 the best format. The OGG format has several advantages over the MP3 format.

Technically, there are many individual formats that can be used with the OGG format. OGG Vorbis is perhaps the most common of these. OGG Vorbis aims at providing high quality musical playback with the minimal amount of memory usage. Playing OGG files on VLC is one of the best ways for minimizing memory usage when playing back music.

Most people don’t realize how big of a difference a switch to OGG Vorbis from MP3 could make. Let’s imagine for a moment that you had a 10 Gigabyte MP3 player. This means that, on average, you could hold approximately 170 hours worth of music on it. This is where OGG Vorbis can make a big impression. OGG Vorbis takes advantage of the fact that there are some parts of sound that human ears don’t notice or that speakers aren’t capable of producing. This enables OGG Vorbis to drop out some of the extraneous information. That same 10 Gigabytes could be used to hold as much as 590 hours worth of music if you used OGG Vorbis! This is over a 300% increase in the amount of music that you can store on your music player. Not only can you store more music, but the music retains the same type of quality in playback that you would expect from your music files. OGG Vorbis is a truly amazing format to use.

By converting your music files to OGG, you are able to save on valuable memory. Playing OGG files on VLC is extremely useful in this regard: you are both minimizing harddrive memory usage and RAM memory usage. This helps to ensure that your computer remains responsive. VLC player is one of the best music and video players available. In fact, up until recently, playing OGG files on VLC was about your only choice if you wanted to take advantage of OGG Vorbis’ amazing compression rates.

How to Play MP4 Files in VLC

The MP4, or MPEG-4 Part 14, file type is used for multimedia files, such as digital video or digital audio. To play MP4 files, you would be amongst the most popular of multimedia files. It can be identified by the “.mp4″ file extension found at the end of a file name and is frequently seen in use among audio and video files that can be streamed, such as Apple podcasts. The MP4 format is based off of Apple’s QuickTime container format, MOV (i.e., “.mov” files) and can be played on computers, streamed online and listened to using portable media players, such as MP3 players, like the iPod. You can play MP4 files on your computer in a number of different media players, but this article will focus on playing MP4 files on VLC, an open source media player you can download for free by visiting the website http://www.videolan.org/vlc/.

Playing MP4 files on VLC is easy. Simply install VLC to your computer, following its default, recommended installation settings for your system, then find an MP4 file on your hard drive and double click to play it. Playing MP4 files on VLC can be even easier if you click the file and drag it into the already-open player. You can also open MP4 files in VLC by clicking “Media > Open File…” in the programs top-most menu; this can accessed by the shortcut key CTRL+O.

Sometimes VLC is not the default media player on your operating system. When this is the case, sometimes VLC does not automatically play your MP4 files. If this happens in Windows, you can right click on your MP4 file and choose “Open With…” from the drop down menu. Find VLC on your hard drive and associate the MP4 file type with VLC. This will make playing MP4 files on VLC work.

If you have any difficulty playing MP4 files on VLC, you can get help by clicking the “Help” button in VLC’s top menu. You can also get to the help section of VLC by pressing F1 on your keyboard while in the program. There, you will find a number of different links to help you find information.

Playing MP4 files on VLC is simple and allows you to enjoy your video and audio media in a free, user-friendly environment.

How To Play MKV Files on VLC

MKV is a file extension used for the Matroska file format for video, audio, or picture storage. It’s been created by open source developers to serve as a universal format for multimedia use. It’s commonly used for storing videos or TV shows, and MKV specifically refers to files including video. While other open source video storage formats have come and gone, such as the OGM format and various AVI and MPEG based formats, have come and gone, MKV is still considered by many developers and users to be the best open source format for digital video storage.
Unfortunately, despite it’s many benefits, not all video players can play MKV files. Most software that users already have installed will not be able to play these files, so a compatible stand alone video play must be used. Playing MKV files on VLC is your best choice. VLC is an open source stand alone video player that is free to download and use. It has some support for MKV, and in most cases can play the file as soon as it’s installed. However, some MKV files use codex that do not come pre-installed with VLC. Fortunately, most codex that a MKV file use can be downloaded for free online, as MKV files usually utilize open source codex.
Playing MKV files on VLC is simple. The quickest way to open the MKV file is to simply double click on it. If VLC has been installed properly and the MK

V file format has been associated with the program, VLC will open automatically and load the file. If that doesn’t work, you can open the MKV file through VLC. When the VLC program is open, click on File. Choose the Open File option, and click on the Browse button next to the white bar. Find the MKV you wish to play on your hard drive, and double click on the file name. Then click OK at the bottom of the box, and the MKV should immediately open and start playing.
If the MKV does not work, chances are it requires Real codex, which are impossible to install on VLC as they are licensed by the Real corporation. To play these files, RealPlayer or RealAlternative must be used. Playing MKV files on VLC is the best option though. It’s rare to find MKV files containing Real codex, so most MKV files will play just fine on VLC.

The FLV file type is a container for flash video (Flash Video). Over the course of several years of a competitive video streaming market, FLV has become the format of choice for internet-based video and an FLV Player is nearly a necessity. It was originally a proprietary format designed and owned by Adobe, and it required the use of Adobe Flash Player to play.

Adobe later released the design structure of FLV player videos to the general public, and allowed for other video players to play as well as create FLV videos of their own. It was this open to the public stance, as well as Adobe Flash Player’s ability to operate in virtually every operating system, that made several high-level companies drop RealVideo and WMV in favor of FLV.

It was only a short matter of time for the open-source community to fully adopt the FLV codec in virtually every open-source video player. This adoption was sped up by the work of the FFMpeg codec design team, who allowed anybody to view their code source, as well as implement the FFMpeg codecs in any other open source video player.

The VLC player is one of several open-source video players available online that utilizes the FFMpeg audio-video codec. The FFMpeg codec is compiled and available in every release of VLC, and the code for the entire VLC project is open to the public. Playing an FLV file with VLC is easy, and as far as the VLC player is concerned, playing a FLV file is natural. Since the FLV file format is completely covered in the FFMpeg codec project, VLC requires no other libraries to play this format, and there is no foreign compression to deal with.

The VLC player is one of the more polished Video Players available. To play an FLV file with VLC, it is as easy as dragging the video file into the window of the running VLC instance, and VLC will automatically play the file for you. With several hundred million downloads, VLC has become a Video Player in its own right. Playing an FLV file whose design is open to the public, with VLC, an open source Video Player, is the most natural thing in the world.

Learning how to Play AVI files on VLC is as easy as opening a file!

AVI is an acronym for Audio Video Interleave, a type of multimedia file format introduced by Microsoft in 1992. As the format name implies, AVI files can contain audio or video files or both together in an appropriate timing sequence to produce a digital movie. When playing AVI files on VLC, the playback can be either sound only, video only, or both depending on the content of the file. AVI files can also be sent as streaming files. Streaming files are sent in chunks and are downloaded in the background while the media begins playing even though the entire media file is not present. AVI is often referred to (incorrectly) as a CODEC. A CODEC is a computer program that is capable of coding and decoding (hence the name CODEC) digital files. The files may be coded from analog to digital for example, or coded for compression. The CODEC can also decode the file from digital into analog, sound produced by a sound card for example, or decompressed for use. Media files are generally presented in a container format, which specifies how the data is stored. AVI is actually a container format and not a CODEC.

VLC is a free multimedia player that is able to understand the AVI file container format and either play the audio data, display the video data, or do both at the same time without the need for additional CODECS. Playing AVI files on VLC literally is as easy as opening a file. Here’s a simple step-by-step procedure for playing AVI files on VLC.

1) After you have downloaded and installed the VLC player, open the VLC media player.
2) The VLC media player will display on your screen. On the menu bar, click on “Media.”
3) A drop-down window appears. Click on “Open File” and navigate to the location of the AVI file.
4) Click on the file in the “Select one or more files to open” window or once you are in the folder that the file is located in, type the name of the file in the “File name” window.
5) Click on the “Open” button. The file will load and the VLC media player will begin playing it automatically.
